NOTES FROM THIS PAGE WITH DETAILS

Use X-CTU to set one of the modems to be a Coordinator

Every XBee network requires one node to be configured to perform the role of the Coordinator. This is true even if all you want to do is establish a transparent serial link between two modems.

  1. Select Modem Configuration Tab
    • Click "Read"
    • Set one as COORDINATOR AT and one as ROUTER AT.
  2. Depending on the modem type you have and the software installed on it, the options may be a little different but will be similar.
    • Select the Function Set drop down and click "always update firmware".
    • When updating the firmware or settings you may get a popup about resetting the Xbees, do not push Cancel.
  3. Use the X-CTU program, go into the modem configuration
    • Set the PAN ID to be the same on both (e.g. 234)
    • Set the Baud Rate on both to be 57600
    • Set the Destination High and Destination Low on the COORDINATOR to be the Serial High and Serial Low of the ROUTER.
    • Set the Destination High and Destination Low on the ROUTER to the Serial High and Serial Low of the COORDINATOR.
