MakerShield

The MakerShield has some decent features (How-To Build a MakerShield). It includes:

  • (2) LED,
    • one red, one green
    • With 1K current limiting resistors
      • Not too bright which I prefer.
  • Pushbutton switch
    • Pushing button, pulls pin down to ground (low), but there's no pull-up. Not sure why not?
  • Potentiometer
  • Wiring area large enough to put a small breakboard. Suggest NOT sticking down the board with the double stick backing unless you never want to remove it.

None of the built-in features are assigned to a particular input pin so the builder can wire them to any pin or the breadboard.

Annotated picture

Annotated the picture of the shield to better show the pin names. They are printed pretty small and they get hard to see when headers are installed.

Shields are great places to do prototyping. I put all of the headers onto the shield. Trouble is these will mostly need male to female jumpers.
